The Melbourne VLab Centre of Excellence hosted its Advanced Forecaster Course “Science Week” from the 22nd to the 26th July 2012. Nineteen online sessions were presented to a classroom and online audience. The content of the presentations consisted of topics relating to the latest developments in meteorological science with respect to operational forecasting. This event is the Australian Bureau of Meteorology Training Centres contribution to the international community as a Centre of Excellence in the WMO Satellite Virtual Laboratory Program.
On the 13th and 17th December 2012, the Melbourne VLab Center of Excellence hosted two Regional Focus Group meetings, using the Webinar web conferencing software.
The topic of these meetings was "Effective training and use of RGB satellite products for Forecasters", presented by Bodo Zeschke. This presentation included material from the EumetSAT RGB Satellite Products Workshop, Seeheim-Jugenheim, 17-19 September 2012. It also incuded input from Bureau of Meteorology staff.
The meetings were attended by members of the Bureau of Meteorology, the Japan Meteorological Agency, Meteorological Service of New Zealand and the Chinese Meteorological Administration.
